Director Benjamin Mauritz will be holding auditions for SCCT’s summer production of SPAMALOT on Sunday, May 14 at 6:00 PM and Monday, May 15 at 6:30 PM. Callbacks by invitation/final audition night will be Wednesday, May 17 at 6:30 PM.
Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” SPAMALOT retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. Did we mention the bevy of beautiful show girls?
Please arrive early to fill out the audition form (be sure to bring a list of all conflicts). Everyone auditioning will be asked to sing 16-32 bars of a prepared song, read aloud from the script, and learn a short dance routine (please wear comfortable clothing and footwear for choreography). Please do not let the dance portion prevent you from auditioning. An accompanist will be provided along with a CD/MP3 player. An upbeat, musical comedy selection or music in the style of the show is preferred.

Character doublings and role genders are only suggested here and may be changed based on audition results and production needs. Major characters not doubling are King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake.
KING ARTHUR (Baritone [Low G2 – High F4], Late 30s-60s.): The King of England who sets out on a quest to form the Knights of the Roundtable and find the Holy Grail. Great Humor. Good singer. Strong with immaculate stage presence.
THE LADY OF THE LAKE (Alto with large range [Low E3 — High B6], 20s-30s): A Diva. Strong, beautiful, possesses mystical powers. The leading lady of the show. Great singing voice is essential, as she must be able to sing effortlessly in many styles and vocal registers. Sings everything from opera to pop to scatting. Gets angry easily.
PATSY (Tenor/Baritone [Low Bb3 – High G5], 30s-40s): King Arthur’s horse and servant. Underappreciated but always longing for King Arthur’s approval. Good, funny, physical mover with some tap dancing. May also play MAYOR and GUARD 2.
SIR ROBIN (Tenor/Baritone [Low D3 – High G4], 30s-40s): A Knight of the Roundtable. Ironically called ‘Sir Robin the Brave,’ though he couldn’t be more cowardly. Joins the Knights for the singing and dancing. Comedic actor who can convey flat humor as well. May also play GUARD 1 and BROTHER MAYNARD
SIR LANCELOT (Tenor/Baritone [Low C3 – High E4], 30s-40): A Knight of the Roundtable. He is fearless to a bloody fault but through a twist of fate, does discover his ‘softer side.’ May also play THE FRENCH TAUNTER, the KNIGHT OF NI, and TIM THE ENCHANTER.
SIR GALAHAD (Tenor [Low Bb3 – High Bb5], 30s): A Knight of the Roundtable. Begins as Dennis, a lower class ‘mud gatherer’ who becomes Knighted and transforms into the dashing Sir Galahad. Strong bari-tenor singing required. May also play PRINCE HERBERT’S FATHER and THE BLACK KNIGHT.
SIR BEDEVERE (Tenor/Baritone [Low D3 — High G4], 20s-40s): A Knight of the Roundtable. An inept scholar. No solo singing. May also play DENNIS’S MOTHER and CONCORDE.
ENSEMBLE (6-8 men and 6-8 women): Seeking strong dancers and singers to play many roles including the Camelot Girls, the Laker Girls, Knights of Ni, Robin’s Minstrels, other Knights of the Round Table, Bodies in “Not Yet Dead,” French Guards and Citizens, Finland Citizens, and more! Strong dance skills preferred; tap skills a bonus.
The following supporting roles may be doubled by principal actors or played by members of the ensemble. These roles may include lines, singing, and/or dancing.
HISTORIAN, MOOSE VILLAGE MAYOR, NOT DEAD FRED, DENNIS’S MOTHER, SIR NOT APPEARING, THE DANCING MONK, THE DANCING NUN, THE VOICE OF GOD, THE FRENCH TAUNTER, THE KNIGHT OF NI, LEAD MINSTREL, THE BLACK KNIGHT, CONCORDE, PRINCE HERBERT, PRINCE HERBERT’S FATHER, SWAMP CASTLE GUARDS, TIM THE ENCHANTER, SIR BORS, BROTHER MAYNARD
