The Sioux City Community Theatre is holding a grand opening reception for the Tom Peterson Black Box Theatre on March 28 followed by “Here We Sit,” the first production in the black box theatre.
The reception will honor the legacy of Tom Peterson, former general manager of the Sioux City Community Theatre and well known Siouxland television personality. Starting at 6:00 PM in the mezzanine area of the theater, the reception will feature a short dedication presentation at 6:30 PM. A selection of wines, appetizers and sweets will be served. Following the reception, a performance of the comedy, “Here We Sit,” will begin at 7:30 PM. Subsequent performances of the comedy will be staged in the Tom Peterson Black Box March 29 through April 1.
The Tom Peterson Black Box Theatre is in the Sioux City Community Theatre facility. Tom Peterson was a weather man for KCAU Channel 9 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was best known for his use of unique pointers when he reported the weather on the air. The pointers came from a lot of different people, companies and organizations over the years from the 1970’s to the 1990’s. Sadly his life was cut short in a deadly collision in January of 1994 with a snow plow. Peterson was an avid supporter of the community theatre and served as its general manager.
“Here We Sit” by L. Don Swartz is an outrageous comedy putting the audience on the hot seat. A series of sixteen, quick-paced scenes illuminate the joys and tribulations of the modern theatre going experience. The scenes are propelled by two feisty old ladies, Lottie and Bernice, who keep popping up to express their contempt for the theatre, all the while snacking from enormous purses stuffed with groceries and candy, wrapped in crinkling paper, of course.
“Here We Sit” will play Thursday, March 29 through Monday, April 1 at 7:30 PM with the Sunday performance at 2:00 PM.
