Our active Youth Theatre each year includes a number of classes, shows, and camps to keep young theater lovers engaged in the theatrical arts.
Each spring and fall, we offer a number of classes for youths. Ages from preschool age(Fully potty trained is the requirement) to the age of18. Classes vary each season, but always include Theatre 101 courses, as well as classes focused on Shakespeare, voice, puppetry, playwriting, and improv, among others.
In the fall and winter months, our Youth Theatre stage performs two shows.
Each summer, our Youth Theatre Camp brings hundreds of young people to the theater to learn about acting, directing, set building, props, and costuming, and culminates in a show.

Benji Cotter has been the Youth Theatre Director for 17 years, but started out as a member of the YT program as a teenager. He has a passion for teaching the youth of Siouxland the art of theatre, and is committed to creating a positive, safe environment for them at SCCT. Benji is committed to guide our students as they learn to express themselves, and remind them that being unique, creative, and goofy is a good thing, and should be celebrated! Benji has been involved at SCCT in many other capacities, including appearing in performances, directing Youth Theatre and Mainstage productions, and working behind the scenes in technical aspects. He is excited to keep the Youth Theatre Program growing strong and continue to be a mentor to our young actors.
Meredith has been performing at the Sioux City Community theater for over twenty years, and has also run tech crew, directed, and assistant directed for a number of productions. She specializes in Shakespeare and literary theater, but also teaches improv, play writing, and beginner’s theater. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before returning to Sioux City. Her favorite play is Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and her favorite musical is The Robber Bridegroom.
Lexi Dobbs has been in the theatre biz since she was 3 years old! One thing she enjoys is working with children. In fact, she is currently a paraprofessional for the Sioux City Schools. She has been in such shows as Shrek (Gingerbread Man/Sugar Plum Fairy, at SCCT), Tony and Tina's Wedding (Donna, at New Stage Players), and was a mentor for Violet in New Stage Players’ Penguin Project production of Willy Wonka. Lexi loves acting, singing, and dancing. Her other interests are watching Star Wars with her husband, Brendon, and playing Animal Crossing.
Hi I’m Ally! I have been doing for 14 years and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. My career is in Early Childhood and being able to bring my passion and career together has been such a joy for me. I have been teaching Curtain Call since 2019. We focus on learning simple theatre skills like being quiet back stage, not touching others props, projection, acting out our emotions etc through game, song and dance. I can’t wait to meet our new little thespians and help them grow a love and passion for theatre.
